The princess finished scrubbing Zay's wound. Kari had to admit, even slightly grudgingly, that she had done a good job. The princess' stories, whether they were real or not, were interesting though. She had never had friends outside of the palace. Living in the middle of a deadly dessert...well not too many people lived outside the castle, there were only servant barracks and none of the servants there would dare risk talking to the royal children. After those barracks there were a hundred leagues of sand under blistering sun. Karillian could definitely definitely understand the being told what to do portion though. "What do you mean by different types of parties though?" Kari had always seen from her window a distant bonfire but couldn't make out anything else, normally she was reprimanded by her mother and her windows locked and shaded. As a little girl the loss of the moon was always saddening.
Trei walked in, his boots loud against the tile, with a huge bag of potatoes. He seemed in a slightly better mood, joking about his encounter with the cook. The Princess immediately went to work; Kari wanted to help but had no clue how to. She heard Trei start on her name, and barely stopped her face from blanching. Of course he would almost give them away. But then Trei caught himself and used her newer name Katya, and seemed almost proud of himself at catching the close mistake. He asked whether a real doctor should look at Zayde. Kari's breath froze for a second. They...was he really that bad? Was her brother in distinct danger of death? "Umm...wait I need to get something from my bag, Prince Trei could we walk and I'll give you my answer?" Kari wasn't just going to give an answer without talking it out. Trei knew his castle and land better than her, so she would need a little bit of background before denying her brother care or risking both of their necks. | |
