Kari and Zay had made pretty good progress, and the pegasi had only stomped on Kari's foot once. They were within two miles of the forest, and that should take twenty minutes, since the two were built for running and climbing the slippery sand dunes of their country. "Lets go." Kari urged her mare on in a warm, but needy voice. The pegusus eye her, but it started into a slow canter. Zay smiled at her, enjoying the same feeling as she was. They had escaped, and their parents hadnt sent anything after them. "We'd better hurry it up, I'm getting the willies that mom and dad are faking us out." Zay said, breaking the peacful silence between them. "I know, I know. I feel the same way, if we cantared, but pressed out knees against their wings, then we could get there in ten." Kari offered. Zay thought about this as the ran, his vest blowing around him. "Fine, lets hurry up though. you have to get up in a certain..." Zay looked up at Kari already on the pegasus. "I like him, and I think he likes me" she said simply, and patted the pegasis' neck. "Well then," Zay slid onto his mount without too much trouble, but the pegasus had side stepped when he got on, and almost caused him to fall off "We need to go, now. Phantu, ten o'clock." Kari hissed at him. He quickly clicked at the beast, and they were off at a steady gallop. Zay looked behind him daringly, and the phantus were less than a mile behind them. "Run!!" Zay shouted at Kari, and they pushed their beasts harder. Zay couldnt shake the image of the phantus coming up to them though. They were creatures of the night, and showed up like shadows, looked like them too, but they werent shadows. They were lethal and long limbed, but their joints made them able to stay close to the ground. They had fangs like no tommorow, and once you look into one's eyes. You couldnt look away. They only ate raw meat, no water or anything They also ran five times faster than a horse, which explained how they had caught up so fast.
"There!" Kari shouted, and dipped off her pegasus to reach into the knot of a tree. "They're here!" Zay screeched, and looked at the floor. "Dont look!" Kari continued grabbing items, but her horse was getting finiky, and so was Kari. Zay looked around for anything to fight with. Then he saw an division riding close behind the phantus, armed. "KARI!" Zay screeched, and then howled. A phantu had attached itself to his leg, and then another, trying to drag him off. "Lezuza!" Kari barked at the phantus, and the poor creatures looked confused as they let go of Zay who was trying not to whimper. "Zay! up!" Kari directed, and Zay took his legs off his pegasus' wings. "Oh...my.." Kari started to say as Zay's mare reared, and spread out its seventeen foot wings of raw muscle and power. The pegasis seemed to have a natural instinct to fly, so that's exactly what it did, with Zay clinging to it "Lezuza!" Kari yelled again as more phantus tried to approach her. She let her pegasis open its wings and almost fell off when the horse took off. She looked down at the furious guards and soldiers which included Sunste, who was screaming at the head commander. "Glad I didnt have to marry him." Kari said outloud to her brother. "Zay?" Kari asked, and noticed her brother looked pale Her brother was brown, not pale Kari urged her pegasis on and came next to Zayde, looking at his ravaged leg. "I'll be okay, lets just land soon." he said faintly. "Okay," Kari said queitly, and waited for some land to come into view.
"Were here!" Kari exclaimed two days later. 'Finaly." Zay said, stronger but his leg still burned from the Phantu poison. "Please let us land," Zay begged, slumping over his mare. He had lost alot of blood, since the fang had gone a good three inches down. "Okay, we're going down." Kari noticed her horse had already decended a great amount, and so had Zay's. "Incoming!" Kari yelled as the horses practically dived into a pasture sourounded by think overgrowth. Zay didnt even care anymore. They had ran out of water the day before, and his leg was burning like it was in a boiling vat of oil. If he died, atleast no more pain, and no more worry, and no more running. He almost welcomed that thought, and then shook himslef mentally. He was halusinating, and then he realized the angle they were falling, and started screaming. "Kaaaarrrriiiiiiiiii!" Zay's voice was being ripped by the wind. Then, it was over. The pegasi had spread out their humongous wings and sailed down softly, hitting the ground smoothly, for Kari. For Zay the little bump hurt like to tommorrow, and he fell off, hitting his arm on a pointy branch. "Uhh...ow.." Zay muttered, rocking his arm. "Why me?" he called out without reason. "Because your you, and I'm me." Kari answered smartly. She grabbed the branch his arm had falled on and broke it in half, making a split. She attached it to his leg, ignoring Zay's painful protests. "Done, you.." Kari didnt continue. She knew for her brother to act like this, he was in some serious pain. "It burns," he kept saying over and over. "I know. I'm sorry Zay." Kari said over and over. 'Go to bed, I'll take watch, and make somthing for you, cool?" "Sure.." Zay said, and welcomed a blanked from Kari. "Night" She said soothingly, and sat close to the fire, watching as the two pegasi tried to get out of their reins, making a ruckus from themselves. | |
