Kari had followed the boy, and had hoped it was not a trap. She could tell he hadnt liked when she had called his precious Cavalli Voltani brutes. She called all animals she liked brutes. She called her favorite horses brutes, her small Serpa (a small serpent with wings) brute. It was just her personal nickname. But whatever. They were being taken care of. This prince could help them. He could easily get all the medicine they needed. Kari almost wished she hadnt been so tough earlier. Then he may actually not just be doinging this out of pity for Zay. They soon came upon a cabin, where the boy rushed Zay inside. Kari was about to complain when she bit her tongue. This boy was going to take care of them. Trust him Kari willed herself. She walked inside and watched as the boy patched and cleaned Zay's wounds pretty well. She could see, though, that he would most definatly have scars. As he dressed Zay's leg, Kari looked around. Zay was laying on a dining room table, which was in the kitchen. Conjoined to the kitchen was a living room with a small fire place, already with some wood on the side. Kari then noticed a back door, and saw it was a bedroom as Zay was shuttled in, coaxed to drink some water, and then the boy left him there and went to see to the Cavalli Voltani. Kari rushed in, not looking at the boy. "You okay, Zay?" Kari asked, ofcourse that was the question to ask, right off the bat too! Kari thought, but she say Zay crack a smile. "The last part rhymed" Kari smiled widely at her brother. "Yeah, it kinda does, doesnt it?" Kari ruffled Zay's hair, payback for two days ago. She got up and grabbed Zay's cloak and covered him with it. "Seriously though, how is it?" Kari asked. "I feel really cruddy. The fire's gone down a bit from somthing that boy put on it. I cant really feel my leg. I havent really looked at my leg. And I really want to scream bloody murder. Good enough for you?" Kari smiled at him again, but she knew he was playing the pain down. "Want or need anything?" Kari asked. "Naw, not really. I'm good" Kari then just sat next to Zay, and looked around. The prince had some of his bags in here, and Kari was looking for a personalized one. It would be so much easier to just call him by name. "His name is Trei, duh," Zay broke in the middle of her thought. "How do you..?" "I actually studied and payed attention in my World History lessons" Kari blushed. She had never really been into that subject, and had ditched their combined class many times. Kari glared in a sisterly way at her brother, and left the room. Zay really just needed sleep. Within a minute of leaving, she could hear Zay's soft snoring. She sat down on the living room chair, not really sure what to do.She looked at the fire place, and to her packs. It was night now, and she could bet none of them had had any dinner, let alone a snack. She went into her bags and found some pepper, salt, and (surprisingly) safron and tyme. She also had a bit of crusty bread. Enough to go as a side if they all had a mini piece. She quickly set out her materials and started a fire. The house was starting to freeze anyways. She searched for a pot int the kitchen, and found a very small cauldren. It'll have to do Kari told herself. Now she needed water. There was no pump in the house, so Kari looked outside. She saw a small stream flowing, and took the cauldren outside, setting it in the stream to fill up. She looked up to Trei sitting with his Howlers, the Cavalli Voltani grazing under a tree. Before Kari could stop herself, she called, "Dinner will be..." Then she shut her trap, grabbed her cauldren, and walked inside, trying not to spill too much water. Why had she said that? There had been no reason for that. Kari argued with herself. She set the water up, and it soon came to a boil. She set the crusty bread next to the fire, hoping the warmth would coax it to become softer. "Kari?" she heard Zay call her. She quickly entered the bedroom, and Zay looked up at her, his back against the wall. "I brought stock, if you want it. And I saw some ancient flour in one of the cabinets. Just saying." Kari smiled at Zay and his laid back, but smart personality. She went through Zayde's things until she came upon a small box of stock. She remembered hiding that in her native land's forsest when she had gotten mad the she couldnt make a good soup. She took the stock, added that to the almost boiling water, and went into the kitchen to find flour. She found it in the last cabinet, half empty, a little course, but it would do. She looked around for a bowl, and found a brown wooden one. She poured some flour into the bowl, took the bowl over to her boiling pot. She smelled the stock, and smiled. She always made a good soup. That had been the first food she had learned to make. She took her seasonings and diced them up with her dagger, saving a quarter for her flour. She slipped them into the soup, mixed it with her dagger, and dearly wanted a knife. "Smells good." Zay commented from the bedroom. "And what would happen if I didnt give you any?" she called back teasingly. This actually stumped Zay, since he really couldnt so anything with his leg in its condition. "I'll tell that boy Trei ,all your embarassing secrets." He called back laughing. "You wouldnt." Kari blushed, and then dribbled a little of the broth into her flour. She needed the contents of the bowl, wishing she had mint. "Any mint?" Kari called to her brother, "Nooo" he said sarcasticlly. "Its only your most favorite plant of all time. Yeah, its in my bag," "Smart alec," Kari called to him as she walked in the room. She grabbed the mint, and looked at Zay's ashen face. "You should get some sleep." Kari advised. "Your soup's keeping me up. I'm not suprised Trei isnt in here, begging for some like I am." Zay replied easlily. "I'm not suprised" Kari said back, and finished her dumplings. She took a small cooking net, set each dough dumpling inside it, and then fried the dough in the pot. "If only I had some kind of meat..." Kari said, taking out her dumplings and setting them on a towel by the fire. She took the crusty bread away from the fire and ground some crumbs on the outsides of the dumplings. "I really wish I had meat." | |
