Trei could taste the aroma drifting out of the cabin. It was a little irritating how the pair made themselves right at home, or the girl at least. He assumed lunch was for the two of them and was perfectly fine with it, he would probably do the same. He shoved the howler off his lap, giving it a scratch behind the ears, and rose. He figured the two Cavalli Volanti would be more relaxed now and easier to inspect. Going to the small yard he took a closer look at the two. They were both small for their species, smaller than Nocte who was one of the smallest of the royal herd. The larger of the two had a dark brown hide and short wings matching in color. The second was smaller, stockier and was a common grey. Again Trei noticed how they held their selves with less pride than an ordinary winged horse. Even as Nocte grazed he had a proud and regal look about him. However, this wasn’t very surprising since Andato rarely gave away a Cavalli Volanti of royal standards. These two would probably be given as a gift to another country, probably not Cancri though, being their closest allies Andato often did present them with royal winged horses. There was no fear of them being used in war by Cancri since their standard mounts were already so fierce and well equipped for the jungles of the country, whereas the Cavalli Volanti would struggle finding space to take flight. The smell of lunch wafted to him and he frowned. He should probably start on his own lunch, he didn’t expect, nor want, strangers to feed him. Trei entered the cabin, howlers at his heels, to find soup cooking and that the girl had already gone through the kitchen. He just ignored the girl, Karillian, and took out the ingredients he needed. He placed the slices of bread, cheese, lettuce and tomato, which were bound to go bad soon anyways, and a couple of chunks of meat on the table. He sliced the tomato, cheese, and meat into thin pieces and stacked everything between the two slices of bread. He pulled out several more chunks of meat and a few apples, which he took outside with him also. He went to the back corral, the howlers at his heels, excited at the smell of meat. He placed his sandwich on a counter attached to the stable and tossed each howler a couple of pieces of meat, accompanied by praising words and scratches behind the ears. He took the three apples and gave each winged horse one. Then he himself went and sat by a tree and ate his sandwich peacefully as he watched the howlers wrestle, occasionally calling on them when they got to aggressive, and speculating his day. | |
