Trei awoke because one of the howlers let out a sharp, short bark. Something that put Trei on alert immediately, considering the rarity of a howler ever barking. Light streamed in from the window, it was morning, just after dawn. Trei looked at his howlers, two stood by the door, crouched and quite, their lips pealed back to show the exposed fangs. The other two stood at the couch, positioning themselves protectively in front of him. He quickly pulled himself up from his seat and slipped his boots on. His side ached from the wound from two days before, but he didn’t have time to rewrap the bandage now. He had taken off his armor and sword while he slept and they lay beside him. He quickly put those on and buckled his belt and sword on. He checked to make sure all his blades were on him and did a thorough run through. Besides his side he felt well enough and was in definite fighting condition. His camouflage from the day before was still on his skin and it could prove useful now. Given the howlers hearing he would guess he had ten minutes before whoever it was arrived, given if they were on horse, if they were walking he had much more time. But he would assume they were on horses, no need to take chances. He grabbed his pack and stuffed as much food in it as he could, but not for himself. He set the bag down on the kitchen table and went outside, howlers on his heels. He quickly saddled all three of the Cavalli Volanti and led them to the front of the cabin. He went back to the stable and grabbed his stuff, mounting the lances onto Nocte’s saddle. Going back inside he stuffed his medical supplies in the bag and a couple of blankets. He looked it all over and nodded to himself heading to the back room he saw Karillian sitting awake, though barely. Trei ground his teeth, of course she would stay up all night protecting her brother but he really wasn’t a threat to them anymore, and now because of this decision they might be in worse shape. He tossed the bag into her lap and said, “Someone’s coming, you better get your brother and yourself out of here. You can take the Cavalli Volanti with you. The food will last you a day, two days top. Before you leave you can come to the palace, come disguised. And,” Trei hesitated, trying to think of a way to get them in without their identities revealed, “Tell the guards you’d like to speak to Prince Trei del Sol about some information on catching a Cavalli Volanti, they’ll get it. I can probably get your brother better medical attention,” Trei added this last part as an incentive not to just run away, cause at this point he wasn’t sure they’d make it.” | |
