Trei had just reached his quarters when a guard approach. The guard kneeled down in front, head bowed, he said, “Two commoners request your appearance, sir.” Trei looked down at the guard, “What did they look like?” The guard looked up, probably a little unsure of what the Prince would think of what he said next, “Quite odd, sir. Nothing like someone from Andato. They say they’re from the other side, but they don’t have the accent at all. I suspect they’re foreigners.” Trei chuckled, “Yes, that must be them. I was expecting them; you can send them to my quarters.” “Yes, sir,” The guard rose and left back for the gate. He entered the entrance hall and said to Lili, who was waiting there as always, “I am expecting two guests. You may keep them here and send for me.” “You do not wish for me to seat them in a separate room?” Lili asked. “No, I will fetch them.” Lili bowed and Trei hurried to his room. He got a glimpse of himself in the mirror and chuckled to himself. It would be quite the feat of they recognize me, Trei thought. They had only ever seen him covered with mud and debris, and pretty worn in clothes. Not he practically shone with cleanliness, had fine clothes, and a crown sat atop his head. He sat down on the edge of his bed, the silky black sheets enveloped him as he laid down with a sigh. He closed his eyes for a moment, clearing his head of everything. With a sigh he rose, the moment had helped him now. He had been tense from the idea of smuggling royals onto a ship, frustrated with his parents, and overwhelmed at the idea of having to be prepared to meet the royals of Cancri tomorrow. He didn’t think it would go down the same way it had with the royal siblings from Cayri. He was pretty sure he wouldn’t be allowed to point a sword at the Princess at their first meeting. He sat down at the dark ebony wood table, reaching to the middle and grabbing a large, black, hard covered book. Trei opened it and flipped through his many sketches. He enjoyed spending his time sketching, though it was an expensive hobby it was something Trei could afford. The paper was nice and thick, good for holding the charcoal he usually used against it. A large part of the pictures were made up of various scenes picturing the Cavalli Volanti. Others though showed the forest and its creatures, a stag leaping over a log, a scene Trei got to see as he sat by a tree on a summer’s day. Some of the scenes depicted the town as he watched unseen atop a building, or on the back of a cart in common clothes, or the docks and wharves as he sat on the crates. Another part of the sketch book was compromised of faces, not always ones he knew, sometimes the faces he saw on the streets that struck him. The merchant whom he bought apples from was there, siblings sharing bread behind a cart, a farmer with his horse, and several others. Some were faces he could name, guards at the palace, servers, Lili, his parents, his sisters were in several, himself in some of them. He would try to look at a moment in his life from an outside view. It was a good talent of his, though not one his parents knew of, or anyone else for that matter. He sat down and picked up a pencil of charcoal, and he flipped to a new page. He began outlining the scene of the Prince and Princess as he first saw it, on the ground in pain Zay lay with his sister crouched protectively with her bow pointed up at Trei’s unseen figure. Then he sketched out the Prince’s face, followed by the Princess’s. He didn’t want to forget what they originally had looked, even if they were disguised now. It was doubtful, one of the main reasons Trei could portray the scenes and portraits with such accuracy was because he had a pictorial memory. He never had trouble recalling the scenes, that why it was fun to draw them from a different angle, a different view. He was adding detail to the Princess’s face when he thought he heard a knock. He snapped his book shut, looking out he guessed it had been an hour. Trei smiled a little, guards didn’t particularly like foreigners, or at least didn’t trust them. He would have been sure to have gone through a few more checks and test than he had before. Trei chuckled a little, he could just imagine the Princess’s face. | |
