“Yeah, he won’t even be allowed in here,” Trei muttered to Zayde. He looked at the boy, his eyes flashed silver with anger, like they did when he got mad. “Look, Zayde, or whatever your name is now, I’m trying to help you out and all, but your sister is not helping me stay any semblance of sane at the moment. She can’t go on about arranged marriages and shit like I have no idea what she’s talking about. New flash for her, I’m in practically the same boat. And no shit, the world doesn’t revolve around me, of course I know that,” Trei snarled. “I was just giving her the benefit of the doubt by saying she had only been an ass to me, I was kind of hoping she was different towards others.” Trei continued to rave, “And, she can’t just go stomping off everyone time she gets mad. If I did that you guys would be going home on ship with that guy right now.”

Trei stopped, and he closed his eyes, taking a breath. He opened his eyes, they still flashed silver but they didn’t have that hard edge anymore, and he sighed. “You know what, whatever. She can do what she wants. My goal is to get you on the ship and to wherever you need to go.”

There was a knock by the open door. Trei turned to see Lili standing there with a tray of steaming food. She could obviously feel the tension in the room, the way she stood there awkwardly; usually she wouldn’t even have to knock. Trei nodded to her and indicated for her just to set the tray on the table. She set it down and set up three places to dine, with a quick bow she hurried to leave. Trei sat down in his chair, “You guys can take one of the guest rooms, Lili will show you which. She’ll bring food for you and whatever else you need, clean clothes, whatever. I’ll try to get your supplies together. You don’t have to stay here, leave if you want,” Trei looked up at the boy, the hard edge in his eyes returning, “But, neither of you can leave my quarters if you choose to stay. If you guys get caught there is nothing I’ll be able to for you.” Trei stood up and gave a small nod towards Zayde, he strode out of the room, not even looking around for Karillian.

He entered the kitchen and found Lili leaning against one of the counters. “Can you make sure the two guests get whatever they need, food, clothes, blankets.” She nodded her head and trei gave a quick, “Thanks.” He headed for the entrance hall and left out the door. He was surprised to see a messenger boy heading up the short stairs to his door. The boy stopped and bowed, “The king and queen request your presence tonight at dinner. You will be dining with Prince Sunste and company.” “Thanks,” Trei said. The bow bowed and was off again. Trei let out a sigh, he had time to waste. He decided to head over to the pastures and visit the royal herd. Maybe if he flew a mile above his problems they’d disappear.
