Zay watched in amazement as Trei started to solve the glyphs before his very eyes. He worked out the characters slowly enough (about ten to fifteen minutes) and slowly deduced about three phrases from the small line of script. Zayde was totally jealous. He looked at the phrases. Two of them were horribly off, but the third was spot on with the exception of a name. Trei asked if the phrase meant the same as the glyphs. It hurt Zay way more when the words were spoken by someone else, made him want to grab Kari and hid her at the end of the world. But that would never happen, at least that’s what logic said. Kari would either go insane from not enough company or whatever, or she’d go bullhead and bust out back into the world and strattle the first person she saw. Most likely the latter. He breathed in deeply, and nodded his head slowly. “I may be wrong, there’s always room for that, but what other explanation would there be? Xirra has been open with their hate against Caryi for centuries, and all of a sudden decide to make a truce? I don’t think so, but using something against the monarch so he can’t attack and they can blackmail him? I’m supposed to take the throne on my twenty-first birthday. Five years, that’s not long to wait on their part. And Kari’s basically a good chunk of my life. I’m not going to let them kill or hurt her, so yeah I’ll go along with their demands.” Zay paused, catching his breath, “Kari—” “I heard my name!” she yelled through the bedroom door, causing Zay to smile at his sister. Even with a guest she couldn’t withstand her sisterly peeves and taunts on him. “No you didn’t!” he called back. “Yes I did!” she shouted back louder, “Nosy Nora,” he taunted, “No!” “Yes!” “No!” “Yes!” “Zayde Kersche Dilliuh, No!” Zay started laughing at his sister, and heard her purposely and theatrically stomping away to the other side of the room and sufficing in slamming a window since the door was already closed. “Nice one,” “Yeah, thanks a lot. Remind me later to remind you I hate you,” she shot back. “Okay,” he said in an annoyingly bright tone. She groaned and he heard her plop onto the bed, well actually he wasn’t sure if it was the springs groaning or her… “Sorry about that, even in front of company…Kari can be the lovingly annoying twin sister anytime she sees fit…which now would be the time for her.” Zayde looked at the script again. Trei had deduced. “I am so totally jealous. Though that’s an e not an i…just saying,” he grinned up at the prince, feeling more like a friend to him than ever. | |
