Hannah smiled slightly as Demetrey led her to a kitchen. “Oh, I know about shoes. I prefer to go barefoot most days at home though. There’s nothing like some jungle soil beneath your toes.” Hannah let out a soft laugh. She had taken note, though, that he knew where the kitchen was. But that wasn’t much of a test of whether he actually worker here or not. Anyone could no where the kitchens were after being here for awhile. Hannah couldn’t quite figure out why she couldn’t bring herself to believe that the boy worked here. Something about him had the quality that marked him as high in society. Possibly the way he carried himself, probably more in the way he spoke. Hannah didn’t like to use that as evidence, since she was usually so relaxed on speaking so people’s formality always seemed off to her. Demetrey opened the door for her, and she gave a nod of thanks. When she entered the room, she couldn’t help but give a laugh. “It’s a bit quiet,” Hannah turned and said to him. They had ended up in a kitchen, but it was deserted. Where everyone was, Hannah didn’t know, but it didn’t seem to be that this kitchen was in use. It seemed more set up for a worker’s lounge. Common place tables and chairs were pushed up against the walls, some with an assortment of things still on them. It wasn’t quite a kitchen in the means of cooking. The place seemed to be where the dishes were cleaned and polished, and the table settings were kept. Hannah was sure that a nearby door would lead to the actual kitchen in use; she suspected it would be close to here. A door may have even connected it. She could see it, on the left wall was a wooden door. She would guess it adjoined the room to the kitchen. She walked over to it, Demetrey behind her. She pushed the door open and was rewarded by the smell of baking bread. It was the kitchen and a few cooks and bakers still were working there. “Nice job, taking us through the shortcut. That was smart,” Hannah said, she was a little unsure if he had actually known about the kitchen being here. She could have easily figured it out by waiting to have seen what he would’ve done. But Hannah hated seeing embarrassed people, even if Demetrey wouldn’t have minded she wouldn’t put him in that position because she didn’t like being in those positions. She decided to give him of the benefit of the doubt and play it as if it was nothing, which it may well have been. | |
