Zayde couldn’t help but smile at Hannah and Will. From the way she’d set herself up, she was invincible and pretty a okay on her own. Now she was like a puppy in Will’s arms, and he briefly wondered what that was like to actually be in love with someone, since Hannah couldn’t be betrothed to a sailor of his rank. After a minute of banter between the two Zayde tossed around the idea of clearing his throat before he heard a curt, “Hello, Hannah,” His eyes flicked up to another sailor coming up to the princess. Within a few cold retorts from Hannah it was easy to judge she was mad at him, whom she introduced as Jasiri. He nodded his head politely at Jasiri, but he felt an odd feeling, he classified it as prejudice. He had no clue who this man was yet, because Will and Hannah were tense, all earlier playfulness gone except for Will’s arms around Hannah’s waist, he immediately was aware of him in a bad way. He listened to the clipped tones that passed through until Will proved that Hannah was upset at Jasiri by whispering how he didn’t understand why. Zayde looked as her face became less fierce and cold, and she stayed calmer than her earlier stance. He watched as awkward phrases passed between the two, and nearly smiled at how it just didn’t seem to fit with a person like Hannah who made even him feel comfortable. Zay listened politely, and picked up the word princess being used. He’d definitely use that one as an excuse to know who she was. Finally Will broke some of the awkwardness by turning away and shoot a glance at Zay, complete with an eye roll, and it made Zayde want to return the expression with a smile and eyebrow raise. He realized why Hannah was so lax with Will and vice-versa. They made you comfortable in their presence, and that included each other. Zayde breathed in deeply, and realized how breathless he felt and noticed the way his pulse was off. Crappidy crap crap crap he swore in his head. Maybe he could find a way to slip off the ship, pretend to faint and find an excuse to go back to the castle. He’d certainly have enough proof. But you’re leg will give you away, surely Sunste would have spies on every ship, even one in Cancri. Zay looked up and stuck his hands into his pockets casually. He wondered where Hannah and Jasri’s awkward words would go. | |
