Trei hurried back to his quarters, frustrated. He continued to clench and unclench his fists as he tried to think of a solution.

For the past couple of hours, Trei had been with his younger sisters. He played with them and then tucked them into bed. He tried to keep that up, since his own parents rarely did it and he wouldn’t be here to do it much longer. He had just been leaving their quarters when a messenger had come up to him.

Trei had asked some of his people to keep an eye on Sunste’s movements. It seemed that he was sending patrols out into the forest, which was what the messenger reported. On top of that, Sunste was preparing to go into the forest. Trei thanked the messenger and sent him off. Sunste could be out for a stroll or a hunt but Trei doubted it. He knew Sunste was here on a mission, and Karillian and Zayde had informed him of that mission. The likely hood was that Sunste had found something in the woods that would lead him to suspect Karillian and Zayde were here. This meant they were in danger.

Trei reached his quarters and entered, nodding towards the serving girl who stood there. Trei was about to make his way to Zayde and Karillian’s rooms when he had an idea. “I need you to go to the guards and tell them to not let Prince Sunste up to my quarters without permission from me,” He said to her, “That will be all.” She curtsied and scurried out towards the guards that kept the gates. Trei watched until she started on her way back, where she turned and yelled to them, “The Prince’s own orders!” Trei gave a nod to himself and then headed towards Zayde and Karillian’s rooms.

He knocked on the door and Karillian let him in. He stepped in and shut the door behind him. He turned to her and said, “We’re in trouble.” Trei paused and glanced around the room, noticing Zayde’s absence. “Where is your brother?” He looked at Karillian for an answer.
