Zayde was hot, but he could hear. Not crystal, his blood was pumping too loudly for that, but he heard Trei ask, and he heard Kari answer. He also heard her accusation, and the second the words where out, he realized that was the truth. Zayde had studied blood poisoning; living in a desert with a million types of snakes you had to. Mentally surveying all his injuries and the aches, it was exactly the side effects and just plain type of wound for blood poisoning. Zay breathed in, the realization scaring him really. Blood poisoning was bad, super bad, there was really no cure. Unless you bled the person, and that was one thing he did not want to have done to him.

             A sharp slice then echoed in his ears, and a bit of the pain fled. His leg was cooler, the skin less iritated, and the minimal moves he made to try and counter the pain hurt less because there was no chafing. Zayde couldn't help it, a sigh of relief escaped him and his slightly jerking hands quit. They lay still against the floor, which he realized for the first time was smooth carpet. He mentally conjured a picture, not wanting to open his eyes, and hoping to distract himself from the pain. If Kari or Trei needed him, well, he'd be right there. Zayde imagined he was fine. If he reached back, wood would meet his fingers from the small chair that sat on the left side of the room. If he scooched his feet back a foot, he'd hit the loveseat with the fringes. His right shoulder would be feeling warmer than his left, with the fire that was smoldering in the fireplace. A small pitcher of water was on the side table, five feet from the wooden chair so five feet from him? He didn't know. He did know how much he'd pay for a glass of water, but funny he had naught the gold nor even the effort to pay someone. What have I become? One day a noble prince, the next a worthless tramp. Zay sighed mentally, and quit his small fantasy.
