The World of Rhune

Page 1: Orpheus was born of the god Apollo, and the muse Calliope.

He was gifted with music and was the greatest in the land. With his lyre, he could charm anything.

Alas, Orpheus fell in love with a beautiful maiden named Eurydice, and they were soon wed.

However while running through flowered fields after the wedding, Eurydice stepped upon a viper's nest and was killed instantly by the bite.

Orpheus was crushed that his love had been taken and played no more in depression and agony of the pain he felt.

Eventually Oprheus strunk his unused lyre and decided to find the love.

He traveled to the lowest valley searching for the Underworld, charming trees into moving and showing him the way.

He charmed the boatman and Cerberus, the three headed dog, into letting him into the Underworld to try and persuade Hades.

Orpheus used his lyre to play and pour out his sadness and pain at the loss of his bride.

And for the first time Hades shed a tear at the bittersweet music

He granted Orpheus Eurydice, but he could not look back until they both were out of the Underworld, and Orpheus agreed.

He journyied back to earth, not knowing if Eurydice was behind him.

As he reached the enterance, Orpheus looked back to prove his doubts, and see if Eurydice was still there.

He turned to see her turn into mist, and be sucked back down into the Underworld.

Orpheus was denied a second passage to the underworld and returned depressed once more.

Eventually he was ripped to shreds by women he had scorned in his pain, thus marking the end of Orpheus.

And starting the beginning of Orpheus and Eurydice, reunited once again.
